Healthy Herds are designed for transitions

by Indra Lusero

As I announce my transition from the directorship of Elephant Circle, I am filled with a mix of emotions. At the end of June 2027, I will pass the torch to our incredible team and the new Steward for the next phase of Elephant Circle's journey.

When I launched Elephant Circle in January 2009 I could only dream that it would grow and succeed to where it would be important that the founder depart to allow for new growth. As with the 6 and 8 year olds I was parenting at the time, I knew my close attention would help Elephant Circle grow and thrive. And that over time, as it matured, my role would inevitably change in order to honor Elephant Circle’s inherently independent life force, to honor the circle of leaders, and to honor my own evolution.

I am thrilled to be at this milestone full of life force: neither burnt out nor kicked out. The circle is a powerful guiding force, and it holds many things: individuals that comprise it, but also the seasons of a year, and the seasons of a life. Circles work their magic on us even if we aren’t fully aware. A few years ago, I started hearing an inner knowing say, “I have done what I came to do.” I didn’t yet feel that my time at Elephant Circle (or on this planet!) was up per se, but I began to see a threshold ahead and to move toward it in a new way.

To arrive here knowing that indeed, I have done what I came to do, is one of the greatest honors and blessings of my life. It feels like an astonishing miracle that I have fulfilled my life's purpose by breathing life into and growing Elephant Circle. I wish that for everyone. May we all get to do absolutely everything that is within us to do. And no more. I am confident that as we do we will change the world.

There will be new seasons ahead for me, and for Elephant Circle. Please continue to circle around, and join us. We can’t wait to share more and to celebrate being in this circle, together.

Join us in reflecting on all the work we have done together and take a virtual timeline tour through the last 20 years of Elephant Circle here.
